Local Nielsen ratings snapshot (Wed., Jan. 23)

By ED BARK
Fox rolled through prime-time on the strength of American Idol and a provocative game show while Belo8's local newscasts stayed on a roll from early morning until late at night.

Idol's audition hour from Charleston, SC drew 343,420 D-FW homes to again rank as Wednesday's most-watched program. The following premiere of Moment of Truth, in which contestants and loved ones are embarrassed in pursuit of big money, held a big gulp of that audience in averaging 297,143 homes. Both shows also coasted to first place wins among advertiser-coveted 18-to-49-year-olds.

Fox4's 9 p.m. local newscast (211,897 homes) also fared well, running a competitive second to CBS' new episode of CSI: NY in both Nielsen measurements.

In the local news derby, Belo8 recorded a second straight double grand slam, which until now hadn't happened during the time unclebarky.com began providing these reports in mid-September of 2006. Most impressively, the ABC station's 10 p.m. newscast again trampolined off a comparatively meager lead-in from ABC's Cashmere Mafia to hold off CBS11. Here's a telescoped look at the two stations' ups and downs:

Belo8
9:45 to 10 p.m. lead-in: Cashmere Mafia --131,522 homes
10 p.m. news -- 241,124 homes

CBS11
Lead-in: CSI: NY -- 253,302 homes
10 p.m. news -- 209,462 homes

Belo8 also won at 10 p.m. among 25-to-54-year-olds, the main advertiser target audience for news programming. And its Daybreak again beat Fox4's Good Day in both measurements.

As usual, Belo8 had gold medals across the board at 5 and 6 p.m.
