Elevated to ESPN's larger national stage, the Texas Rangers' home sweep of Tampa Bay easily ranked as Sunday's top prime-time attraction.
Ending shortly after 10 p.m., the game averaged 212,576 D-FW viewers in besting all competing programming. The runnerup prime-time attraction, ABC's repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, had 146,146 viewers in the 7 p.m. hour.
Only WFAA8's 10 p.m. newscast had more overall viewers than the Rangers, with 232,505. Still, the game's overhang, from 10 to 10:09 p.m., outdrew the first 15 minutes of the newscast before viewers peeled away from ESPN.
Earlier Sunday, Roger Federer's elongated endurance win over Andy Roddick in the men's Wimbledon finale averaged 126,217 viewers locally on NBC. The match peaked at 212,576 viewers between 12:15 and 12:30 p.m., when Federer finally claimed victory.
Later on CBS, Tiger Woods narrowly won his own golf tournament while 152,789 watched the final round.
On Fourth of July morning, Serena Williams victory over sister Venus in the Wimbledon's woman's finale averaged 66,430 viewers on NBC. The Rangers-Rays game that night on Fox Sports Southwest had 86,359 viewers.
Saturday's prime-time programming was led by the Macy's fireworks display on NBC, which had 152,789 viewers.
