Rockwall's Jason Castro survives; not so David Hernandez.

By ED BARK
His recent past probably didn't help him, but neither did Tuesday's overwrought performance of Lennon-McCartney's "I Saw Her Standing There."

It all left former full frontal stripper David Hernandez without a ticket to ride Wednesday after American Idol's latest vote-off.

"You'll see me at the top," he vowed lamely. "This isn't it for me."

Hernandez's performance had been deemed "corny verging on desperate" by Simon Cowell, long the only Idol judge worth tuning in.

Cowell didn't care much for Rockwall's Jason Castro either, dismissing his guitar-strumming rendition of "If I Fell" as worthy of a "student in a bedroom at midnight."

But Castro slide in "safe" early on, leaving Kristy Lee Cook and Syesha Mercado standing alongside Hernandez in the dreaded "Bottom Three."

Jim Carrey earlier showed up in an elephant costume to promote 20th Century Fox's upcoming Horton Hears a Who! And former Idol runnerup Katharine McPhee performed Lennon-McCartney's "Something" while accompanied by pianist David Foster.

The field's now down to 11, with the 20-year-old Castro still good to go as the show's last remaining Texan.

Yours truly stupidly picked Hernandez to make Idol's Final Four before the stripper news broke on March 4th. His performances immediately deteriorated, leaving the hunky Arizonan exposed on two fronts.
