Idol: Jagged bitter pill

American Idol's remaining pseudo rocker, pierced Gina Glocksen, went home Wednesday night, making it all the more likely that Sanjaya Malakar will make the mega-hit's Final 6.
San Antonio's Haley Scarnato, in Idol's bottom two for a second straight week, again dodged the weekly bullet while Sleepy Time Phil "Nine Lives" Stacey somehow stuck to the wall. Neither looks long for Idol, though. A one-two punchout seems almost inevitable in the show's next two vote-offs.
Gina's eviction was surprising, though, leaving her to grit her teeth through the old standard Smile while everyone faked being so sad to see her go. She had looked good to go to the Final 6, which now likely will include Sanjaya. That had seemed unfathomable a few weeks ago, but the much-maligned one-note wonder has more entertainment value than a barrelful of Joe Piscopos.
If he makes it to the Final Four, though, it will be akin to Ashton Kutcher playing Hamlet. Wait a minute, that's not nearly far-fetched enough. It will be as if Jerry Lewis and Prince teamed to star in a new version of The Defiant Ones.
Otherwise Tony Bennett was said to have the flu, which prohibited him from singing live after showing the contestants how to properly perform old standards the night before. His place was taken by Michael Buble, who crooned an old tune and then asked host Ryan Seacrest, "Am I wasting my votes by still voting for Antonella Barba?"
"No, I do the same thing," said Seacrest, following the script. Antonella got bounced a few weeks back after some topless pictures of her made the Internet hum for a minute or two.
Idol still has Sanjaya, though. Maybe he has some Polaroids of America at large.
