Dallas-based WFAA8 has hired a replacement for former anchor/reporter Jonathan Betz.

She’s Marie Saavedra, currently a weekend anchor/reporter at independent station KTVK-TV of Phoenix.

WFAA8 news director Carolyn Mungo confirmed Saavedra’s hiring Monday. Unlike Betz, though, she’ll only be reporting for the station, Mungo said in an email response. Betz, who recently left WFAA8 for the Manhattan-based Al Jazeera America network, also had anchored on weekends. Earlier Monday, Al Jazeera America, which has yet to go on the air, announced it had hired former CNN anchor/reporter Soledad O’Brien as a special correspondent.

Saavedra joined KTVK in August 2011, according to her station bio. She’s a graduate of the Missouri School of Journalism.

KTVK and WFAA8 are owned by Dallas-based Belo Corp., although not for much longer. All 20 of the Belo TV stations were sold to Gannett Co., Inc. on June 13th. Gannett expects to officially take control of the stations by the end of this year.
