The picture is getting clearer for WFAA8’s first-ever 4 pm. weekday newscast.

News director Carolyn Mungo said Thursday that incumbent Colleen Coyle will be the program’s full-time meteorologist and also “present other content during that hour.”

“We are very excited to have Colleen in this new role,” she added via email.

Coyle joined WFAA8 in July 2010, and is considered to be a rising young talent that the station doesn’t want to lose. In June of 2011, she made a favorable impression as a guest weathercaster for a week on ABC’s Good Morning America.

Mungo also said that the newscast’s premiere date is Sept. 9th. And she confirmed a previous report on unclebarky.com that Jason Wheeler will solo as news anchor in the early going.

The newscast, which will compete against existing local news hours on NBC5 and CBS11, may or may not have a sports segment, Mungo said. “We’re still formulating.”

WFAA8 also has been advertising on its website for a new weekend early morning meteorologist. But the position hasn’t been officially filled yet.
